THE BACK COUNTRY
STORY SYNOPSIS
Still working as a waitress a year after graduating from college with a degree in journalism, a restless but determined Diane Jackson (CHLOE FRANCIS) journeys from her home in Seattle to the Oregon back country intent on taking some photos that will help jump-start her career as a photo-journalist. In Oregon she meets Jim Quaid, (JOSHUA RENGERT) a handsome, no-nonsense wilderness guide whose favorite pastimes are fishing with his older brother Chuck (VINCENT RAYMOND) and long solo horseback rides through the tranquil and picturesque countryside.
Despite an initial mutual attraction, the old fashioned country boy and the modern, slightly cynical city girl get off to a rocky start. Eventually the two seemingly polar opposites begin to warm up to one another while traveling by horseback to supply some hunters in a remote location. But before their relationship can fully blossom, they have a horrific encounter that will not only test their endurance and will to survive, but the strength of their character as well, as they are forced to flee for their lives the through the rugged mountainous terrain.
"THE BACK COUNTRY" is a stirring action-adventure-crime drama that blends elements of the western and film-noir genres in a tense, unpredictable story set against the breathtaking scenery of the Oregon Cascades mountain range. With a retro visual style, compelling characters, strong moral theme and a powerful music soundtrack that features some of the finest works of such renown masters as DVORAK, ELGAR, HOLST, TCHAIKOVSKY and VIVALDI, "THE BACK COUNTRY" is reminiscent of the entertaining, emotionallly engaging, thought-provoking motion pictures Hollywood produced during its heydays of the 1930s, 40s, 50s and early 60s.
